TB Health Advocacy and First Aid Training

Every year the Department of Education in partnership with Disaster Risk Management Council of the Local Government Unit conducts disaster preparedness training to students in secondary education. This year, in Ditay High School, Municipality of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay, we, Ateneo medical students, were fortunately invited as guest speakers and trainers of the said event. As medical student, we gave them training on first aid at the same time imparted our advocacy on Tuberculosis.


The event held last October 10, 2014, was an opportunity to improve their skills on the basic of first aid care when untoward accidents or disasters may strike unknowingly. The discussion includes the principles of splinting, how to stop bleeding, and basic life support among others. The said event was also an avenue to spread the awareness on the importance of reporting cases of Tuberculosis at the same time increase their knowledge on the disease condition; eventually impart the said health problem not just with their friends but as well as within their family. The students who participated the said training were also members of the Boy scout and Girls scout of the Philippines. -A.Sauti
