Story of Basura Monster and Ubokabularyo
Once upon a time, in a far flung community there live playful kids name Buboy and Anna. They did not show any love for the environment. And one day, they threw their trash in the river were there creeps a monster. This monster feeds on the waste and later it grew so big; it arises from the river and wreaked havoc.
This is a glimpse of the story of Basura Monster, were we shared with the elementary students of barangay Ditay. It was one way to easily instill in their mind the advocacy we would like to impart in the community that is, proper waste disposal.
The story was role played by us, eight dedicated Ateneo medical student, which was cheerfully attended by the grade schoolers’ of Ditay. Along with the role play, we conducted also Ubokabularyo lecture held on 7th day of October 2014 at the Ditay Elementary School.
The Ubokabularyo was a simple health teaching on the proper way of preventing dissemination of airway infective diseases that is spread through coughing. After the said talk, the children were cautious of practicing good and proper hygiene such as having handkerchief in their hands whenever nature calls for them to sneeze or cough. Prizes were then awarded to those who were able to voluntarily demonstrate the proper techniques of Ubokabularyo and concept of solid waste disposal. -A.Sauti
